Abstract
Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the relationship if there is any correlation between the bispectral index (BIS), the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) and the intracranial pressure (ICP) in the patients with moderate to severe brain injuries.

Materials and Methods: A total of 30 patients with severe brain injuries in the intensive care unit were monitored for BIS, GCS and ICP.

Results: The BIS was moderately correlated with the GCS but poorly correlated with the ICP.

Conclusion: The BIS may carefully be used for assessing the level of consciousness in brain-injured patients, as assessed by the GCS.
